For whatever reason I seem to be in the mood of hanging objects on strings. Two of my latest shoots have been soccer cleats and a guitar pick. Copa Mundials began being manufactured in 1979 and have been one of the worlds most popular soccer cleats ever since. Fender happened to be the lucky brand of choice for having a great looking pick that could have light bounced through it.
So I went to D.C. for the extended weekend (MLK JR Day). I hoped to get some photos for an architecture assignment but due to bad food and bad weather on the final day I only snapped a few. These are a couple of my favorites.
So I'm terrible at keeping up with this. I have so many photos hanging out on my laptop but I figured I'd update with a couple of school projects from fall quarter, then update over break other stuff I did. Not going to bother overloading another update so I'll keep it short with a few of my favorites from the quarter.
This wasn't turned in for a final assignment but I really dig the photo. Have some more from this motorcycle shoot I plan on toning in the future.
Here's something different. I haven't been doing a lot of still life and I haven't done food photography for a few years. But I will be doing more still life / food this winter and it's something that I definitely need to brush up on.
This was from one of my favorite shoots of the quarter. Definitely an amusing day and makes me hope I get to do cool projects like this after graduation. The whole process of finding this motel, dealing with the owners, and getting random calls to the room during the shoot just added to this bizarre world I got to experience for one day. I still have some shots I want to wrap up that I'll probably shoot this Spring to finalize the set for my portfolio.
Okay this was a pretty long post, especially because there's still one more thing left. I had the opportunity to shoot video this quarter, something I've always wanted to do more of since high school. Me and my friends were always making videos whether it be for skating or entertainment, so it was really cool to use more sophisticated equipment / software all these years later. This is my friend Ryan. A friend since high school and a good dude, backed hard. He was kind enough to let me take pictures of him all day for another shoot. I had an idea in my head for awhile that revolved around shooting a video about skateboarding. I had a D300s with me that day and modified my original idea based off of equipment, and assignment details.
Hard to believe the last time I was on here was July, and now it's October. The past few months have flown by so I guess it isn't surprising I neglected updating this blog. With the end of my internship, end of summer, visiting family and school starting up again I've just been busy with other things.
So I have a ton of images I've done since my last post, but I'll limit it to the stuff I did the rest of summer and wait to upload some of the stuff I've been doing for school.
The next assignment had me covering a plaque ceremony on our college green. The president made a brief appearance and speech for the gathering crowd. After he spoke he made some rounds while the band played under the elms.
Hard to tell but McDavis is giving his speech in the center of the photo, crowd in the background, band in the foreground. Larger size here.
One of the last assignments I had was to photograph a kiln firing behind Seigfred Hall towards the end of summer. Everyone was great. Extremely friendly people and a relaxed atmosphere. And finally I went on an excursion to Marietta, OH to photograph a university boat. It was a small houseboat and there was about 30 people max on the boat that day, extremely crowded. There were professors and students and they do a lot of experiments on the river water. It was pretty cool and I got to go through downtown Marietta and had lunch at the Marietta Brewing Company. I'm not going to post most of the work as it's mostly promo work for the College of Engineering and not really portfolio work. Somewhere in the midst of this I went back home to Columbus and shot a friends wedding. All things considered it went rather smooth, but fast. It was held outside and ended up raining during the reception, but they made it through the ceremony / food just fine.
Well I still have a lot of things to post / update on this blog. Have shot some pretty interesting things for class and for my job at school. There's also a TON of stuff I still need to shoot but only have a couple weeks left in the quarter, but it's all going to be portfolio geared work. I plan on updating sooner rather than later.
Until then, I'll leave with a song by my most listened to artist (according to last.fm) over the past 3 months - The Smiths. This was the first song I heard by them and it was probably from a skate video, but I can't recall which one. (I know Arto Saari skated to Handsome Devil in 'Really Sorry' but that wasn't until a few years later.)
